What is Burnout?

What is burnout? Feeling of emotional exhaustion that occurs in the course of professional activities.

One of the reasons for the appearance is the imbalance between the volume of work tasks and the available resources for their implementation. In other words, there is too much to do for lack of time and energy. In most cases, burnout is characterized by four main symptoms: exhaustion, mental distancing, cognitive and emotional impairment.

Between February and April 2022, McKinsey, a global consulting firm, conducted a global survey of 15,000 employees and 1,000 HR leaders in 15 countries. The results showed that one in four employees experience burnout symptoms. For employers, ignoring the problem of burnout can lead to a drop in organizational effectiveness.

In the study, four out of five HR leaders reported that the mental health and well-being of employees is a top priority for their organization. Employers prefer to solve the problem on an individual level, paying for fitness services or consultations with a psychologist. However, as experts note, the optimization of processes at the organization level is also important.
