SAI UAE held virtual INTOSAI conference on corruption prevention during times of crisis
On 9 December 2020, on the World Anti-Corruption Day, the Supreme Audit Institution of the United Arab Emirates (SAI UAE) hosted a virtual conference on the challenges and approaches to prevent corruption outbreak during times of crisis "Collaboration between SAIs and ACAs”
The Conference was organized by SAI UAE in its capacity as the President of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (CoSP UNCAC) and the chair of the INTOSAI Global Expert Team on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed between INTOSAI and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for promoting the collaboration between both parties.
Ambassador Hamad Alkaabi, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna, moderated the Conference, which was attended by more than 260 representatives of SAIs, Anti-Corruption Authorities and UNODC.
The conference was inaugurated with opening remarks and keynote speeches from the President of CoSP UNCAC H.E. Dr. Harib Al Amimi, the Chief of Corruption and Economic Crime Branch in the Division for Treaty Affairs at UNODC Ms. Brigitte Strobel-Shaw, Secretary General of INTOSAI H.E. Dr. Margit Kraker. Chair of INTOSAI Mr. Alexei Kudrin delivered his welcoming remarks in a written form.
Representatives of INTOSAI community and various Anti-corruption Authorities delivered presentations and discussed topics related to challenges and approaches to prevent corruption outbreak in times of crises like Covid-19 pandemic, and agreed that there is a need to enhance cooperation to effectively combat corruption.
