Ms. Svetlana Orlova, Auditor, Member of the Board of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, held a meeting with Manhel Henawy, Deputy Minister of Finance for Budget of the Syrian Arab Republic, who visited the control agency as part of his visit to the Federal Treasury.

During the meeting, the Syrian colleagues got acquainted with the Russian system of external public control, with the role the Accounts Chamber plays in the budget process, as well as with its powers, functions, and personnel policy.

Special attention during the meeting was paid to the cooperation between the Accounts Chamber and the Central Committee for Financial Control of the Syrian Arab Republic.

We actively work in INTOSAI and involve our Syrian colleagues in the international dialogue on the issues related to public audit,

the auditor said.

The auditor also informed the representatives of the Ministry of Finance of Syria about the results of the Accounts Chamber's visit to Damascus as part of an interdepartmental delegation in October 2022.

During the visit, we held several meetings related to public audit. The main focus was on developing the Syrian auditors' and inspectors' professional competencies and improving the methods of control activities,

SAI Russia is planning to continue sharing experience in public audit and discussing the opportunities for joint audit activities with the Syrian colleagues in Damascus during the next visit of the interdepartmental delegation in June 2023.
