What will it take for nuclear power to meet the climate challenge?
Nuclear power can be an important part of the energy transition.
Scaling the industry to meet growing demand for electricity will require governments to mobilize resources quickly and efficiently. This is stated in a new article by the international consulting company McKinsey.
The organization predicts that global energy consumption could triple by 2050. The expected increase in demand will be largely due to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, the decarbonization of industrial processes. Factors such as progress in the design of safety systems and the speed of construction of nuclear power plants, the lack of high-quality land for renewable energy, contribute to the development of nuclear power. Among the factors limiting the development of the nuclear industry are the complexity and variability of reactor designs, a limited production base of materials, and a lack of qualified personnel.
