The Sustainable Development Goals Report 2023: Special Edition
The effects of the climate crisis, the global economic slowdown and the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have stalled progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, according to a new UN report.
According to the organization, out of 140 tasks analyzed, 50% are not carried out in accordance with the plan, 30% either do not show any dynamics or regress (i.e., below the level of 2015). The worst results were recorded for the implementation of SDG 2: the number of hungry people in the world returned to the level of 2005.
To help achieve the SDGs, the UN recommends that governments:
- Develop comprehensive and targeted strategies to eliminate poverty, reduce social inequality and support the most vulnerable segments of the population
- Increase the accountability and openness of public institutions
- Increase funding for projects in the field of SDGs
