The Golden Opportunities Buried in E-Waste
According to the international consulting company BCG, over the next 25 years, the volume of global e-waste production will more than double and reach 137 million tons per year by 2050.
Despite the high economic potential, only 20% of electronic products are currently recycled. In 2022, the cost of components and raw materials of used electronics was estimated at $91 billion.
To reduce the environmental footprint and develop e-waste recycling systems, it is recommended to:
- Raise public awareness of the possibilities and benefits of waste recycling
- Adapt legal regulation
- Create ecosystems of electronics manufacturers and recycling companies.
