The Global Findex 2025
Between 2021 and 2024, the share of adults with bank accounts or mobile wallets increased from 74% to 79%.
Digitalization has become a key driver of growth in the use of traditional banking services and the development of new financial mechanisms. Mobile devices have emerged as the primary channel for conducting financial transactions: 42% of adults now make digital merchant payments, compared with 35% in 2021.
Despite this progress, 1.3 billion people worldwide still lack access to basic financial services, and 44% of adults in low- and middle-income countries would be unable to quickly mobilize funds in the event of an emergency. Key challenges include wealth inequality, insufficient digital infrastructure, and low levels of digital literacy among the population.
