Credible pathways to 1.5°C. Four pillars for action in the 2020s
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has published a report "Strong Pathways to 1.5°C: Four Pillars of Action in the 2020s".
The authors note the need for urgent measures to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement. The organization estimates that CO2 emissions from the energy sector have increased significantly in 2022, despite the declining cost of clean technologies and the development of renewable energy sources.
The experts identified four key areas of action to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement in the current environment:
- Decarbonizing electricity, improving energy efficiency and accelerating electrification - tasks can be met by increasing the capacity of renewable energy sources;
- reducing deforestation to zero by 2030;
- abatement of non-CO2 emissions;
- Offsetting hard-to-abate residual emissions.
