Words of condolence on Mr.Makwetu passing away

The INTOSAI community was struck by the grief news on 11 November, 2020. Mr. Kudrin expressed the condolences on the sudden loss of Mr. Makwetu.

On behalf of the INTOSAI community, the staff of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation and me personally let me express our deepest condolences on the passing away of Mr. Thembekile Kimi Makwetu.

He was a professional of the highest level, a person of extraordinary energy and of keen intelligence. Mr. Makwetu enjoyed sincere respect of his colleagues and great authority among the foreign partners.

During his years as Auditor-General of South Africa, he has made a significant contribution to the development of International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions and BRICS SAIs cooperation. His authority and enthusiasm were always a driver for successful initiatives, no matter the format. His role in the INTOSAI Capacity Building Committee is invaluable. He was truly a strong leader, a guru of audit.

At this moment of grief, please convey the words of sympathy and support to the family and friends of Mr. Makwetu. I wish courage and resilience in the face of this painful loss.

Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation,

Chair of INTOSAI

Aleksei Kudrin
