From the Military to the Workforce: How to Leverage Veterans’ Skills

The international consulting company McKinsey presented a new article on supporting veterans in the labor market.

As the authors note, the American labor market faces a number of problems: a shortage of qualified personnel, an aging workforce. To combat the shortage in the labor market, it is necessary to change the approach to personnel policy.

In addition to the traditional review of resumes, it is recommended to evaluate candidates based on their ability to learn and adapt to new conditions. The skills of retired military personnel (including technical and communications) may be in demand in the current environment.

McKinsey estimates that improving the effectiveness of veteran recruiting could add up to $15 billion to the U.S. economy over 10 years. Among the most promising areas for employment of veterans are the construction and transport sectors.
