On BRICS Sidelines: Boris Kovalchuk Meets with Heads of Brazilian and Egyptian SAIs

July 29, the Fourth Meeting of the Heads of BRICS Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) was the place for Boris Kovalchuk, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation, to meet Vital do Rêgo, Vice President of Brazil's Federal Court of Accounts, and Hisham Badawi, Chairman of Egypt’s Accountability State Authority.

In the course of bilateral negotiations, the parties expressed their willingness to further develop long-term fruitful cooperation and outlined plans for the near future.

Following the meeting with the Brazilian SAI delegation, the parties agreed to continue exchanging expertise and guidance materials on current issues pertinent to external public audit. The collaboration between regional audit institutions of the two countries was recognized as a promising area of cooperation.

“Such cooperation could involve both experience exchange seminars and advanced training programs,” 

noted Boris Kovalchuk.

Mr. Kovalchuk discussed possible regular online events to exchange experience and best practices in performance and compliance audits and the use of digital technologies during inspections with the Egyptian SAI Head. The parties also expressed their interest in developing cooperation on public accountability and anti-corruption. 

“We are ready to strengthen partnership in this area, including within the INTOSAI Working Group on the Fight Against Corruption and Money Laundering headed by the SAI Egypt,” 

Boris Kovalchuk emphasized.

The Head of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation invited the Brazilian and Egyptian SAIs to take part in developing the U-INTOSAI platform and to join the INTOSAI Working Groups in their efforts concerning SDGs and Key Sustainable Development Indicators as well as on Audit of Public Procurement led by the SAI Russia.
