New report of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) provides up-to-date statistics on SDG 2 implementation.

The FAO estimates that between 691 million and 783 million people in the world will experience hunger in 2022 (up 122 million from pre-COVID levels) -19). The most acute situation is observed in Africa - more than 20% of the population is experiencing acute food insecurity (more than twice the global average).

Globally, women and people in rural areas are more likely to be food insecure. Ensuring food security is complicated by urbanization, as a result of which the growing demand for food changes the market balance. This leads to an increase in the cost of products, especially the healthy food basket. More than 40% of the world's population cannot afford a healthy diet.
