A new working report of the World Bank "Social Sustainability in Development: Meeting the Challenges of the 21st Century" has been published.

According to the authors, the international community is facing an unprecedented series of crises. The COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, geopolitical confrontation and the economic crisis will have long-term social consequences, including increasing social inequality and growing social tensions. Ensuring sustainable development and reducing poverty will require greater attention to social sustainability in addition to addressing economic and environmental issues.

The organization's experts identify four components of social sustainability: social cohesion, inclusiveness, sustainability and legitimacy. The priorities within the framework of the social policy are:

• analysis of the political sphere by identifying the main stakeholders, their goals and prevailing norms and values;
• active involvement of civil society in political processes and creation of opportunities for all comers;
• development of a long-term strategy for social development.
