Multidimensional Poverty Index 2023
Experts from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPH) analyzed the income level of the population in 110 countries of the world.
According to the organization's estimates, in the period 2005-2021. 25 countries have halved poverty rates. The highest results were recorded in India - 415 million people managed to improve their socio-economic situation and overcome the poverty threshold. Also among the leaders are China (69 million people in 2010-2014) and Indonesia (8 million people in 2012-2017). Despite steady progress, 1.1 billion people (18% of the population) live in poverty. Five out of six poor people live in sub-Saharan Africa (534 million) and South Asia (389 million). The most vulnerable social group is children under 18 (27.7% or 566 million people). Poverty affects predominantly rural areas: 84% of the poor live in rural areas.
