Innovating Assessments to Measure and Support Complex Skills
Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published a new working paper "Innovating Assessments to Measure and Support Complex Skills".
Experts focus on the evolution of approaches to assessing students' knowledge and the quality of education in general.
In modern conditions, the issue of finding new and improving existing forms of developing young people's skills of the 21st century (problem solving, creative thinking, self-regulation), as well as ways to evaluate them, is of particular relevance. For a better assimilation of the material, innovative assessment methods are needed that combine the conceptual, technological and methodological achievements of science.
As the authors note, educational assessments should better measure what matters in practice. Most of the practical competencies are closely intertwined with each other. The evaluation system should also be comprehensive. Assessing students' ability to solve complex problems should include top-down (supported by theory) and bottom-up (visible in the data) indicators.
