Untapped Reserves 3.0: Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Energy Sector
BCG published a report “Untapped Reserves 3.0: Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Energy Sector”.
Energy companies in the Asia Pacific region reported the highest average share of women in the workforce, with 27%, followed by Central and South America at 26%, North America at 25%, and the Middle East and Africa at 20%.
BCG research shows there are four types of initiatives that are linked with higher levels of women’s representation at senior levels: flexible working and caregiver supportive policies, balanced promotion practices, commitment from senior leadership, and intentional recruiting.
Among the recommendations to promote gender equality in energy companies:
- Invest in programs to attract, retain and promote women in the service.
- Continue to support programs that have already been proven to be effective for women’s advancement (such as flexible, remote, and hybrid working models).
- Fund company inclusion strategies and robust data tracking to understand organization-wide representation and guide strategic decision-making.
- Develop relations with business partners, community organizations and government entities.
