The European Statistical Agency (EUROSTAT) presented a new working paper on quality-of-life issues in the European Union (EU).

The document contains up-to-date information on the development of the region, including indicators of income distribution and socio-economic inequality, access to basic social services.

Key results:

• In 2022, the average annual disposable income in the EU was 18,706 PPS (purchasing power standards) per EU resident. Values ranged from 9,671 PPS per person in Bulgaria to 25,437 PPS per person in the Netherlands and 33,214 PPS in Luxembourg.
• In 2022, the EU income gap ratio was 4.7, showing that on average the highest income group earned 4.7 times more than the lowest 20% of the population.
• The number of people at risk of poverty or social exclusion in 2022 was 95.3 million (300,000 less than in 2021).
