Energy Transition Investment Trends 2023
Despite a global slowdown in economic activity and supply chain disruptions in 2022, investment in low-carbon technologies increased by 31% to an all-time high of more than $1.1 trillion.
The largest number of investments in 2022 were attracted by:
- renewable energy – USD 495 billion (+17% compared to 2021)
- electric transport – USD 466 billion (+54% compared to 2021)
- electric heating - 64 billion US dollars
China is the world leader in attracting investments in green projects, their total volume amounted to 546 billion US dollars. The European Union (EU) and the US come in second and third with over $180 billion and $140 billion.
Bloomberg estimates that for the first time, investment in low-carbon technologies has equaled investment in fossil fuels. However, current funding for the green economy is not enough. Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 will require raising $4.55 trillion a year before the end of this decade.
